The marking problem

Automation needs an answer key.

Historical markings are a weak answer key for training and evaluating automated systems.They show what someone marked, not whether the marking complied with the rules in force at the time. Decades of inspector general and GAO reports tell the same story: historical markings often do not align with those rules.

A person or upstream system supplies the classification decision or proposed marking, sometimes using AI or other probability-based methods.

Marque is the deterministic marking-correctness layer: it checks, corrects, and normalizes the markings and labels those inputs require.

Across structured and unstructured documents and data, Marque computes the markings the governing rules require and returns a reproducible, rule-cited result with an audit record. It automates the rule consequences of known inputs; the semantic classification determination remains upstream.
